FRAUD IS ON THE RISE: Protect Yourself

Lately, we have seen an increase in the number of financial scams hitting our membership.  We want to ensure you continue to keep fraud prevention top of mind.  Scammers are quick to find new ways to trick us with wire transfer, cash app, gift card, and identity theft scams.  We take these things very seriously and want to offer tips to prevent you from falling victim to one of these acts.

FRAUD PROTECTION VIDEO
DON’T TRUST CALLER ID

Fraudsters have mastered the ability to create displays that look like legitimate caller ID’s.  A call coming from Hopewell Federal may be originating from a foreign country.  Protect yourself by offering to call us back at 740.522.8311 if you are ever in doubt.

BE A SKEPTIC

If something does not feel right or sound right, trust your gut!  Scammers prey on our fears and often look for ways to find someone’s vulnerability.

TAKE YOUR TIME

Scammers are known for creating a sense of urgency.  STOP, BREATH, & THINK.  Ask yourself why something so important like transferring money could possibility be so time sensitive.

KEEP IT A SECRET

Keep your sensitive information private.  Thieves love when you reveal things like social security numbers, addresses, forms of payment, or other sensitive information while they are in ear shot.  Be sure that you are using encrypted websites, private places for phone conversations, and secure WIFI when revealing personal pieces of information.

DO NOT SHARE IF ASKED

Hopewell Federal employees will never call you and ask you to reveal sensitive personal information like debit or credit card numbers.  If someone contacts you and says they need this information, never reveal it.  If in doubt, hang up and contact us directly.

SKIP THE CLICK

Browsing websites and social media platforms can be fun but be cautious about where you click.   Items being sold that direct you to another website can be a HUGE red flag.  Articles with a can’t miss hook that invite you to click on a link to read them, could also take you to a website designed to take your personal information.  Skip the click!

If you are ever in doubt or have a question about your financial protection, we are always here to help!  Contact us directly.

FRAUD REMINDER:

Hopewell Federal will never call, email or text requesting your account number, social security number or last four digits of either. Phone calls or letters suggesting that Hopewell has requested this information are fraudulent. If you have questions, please contact us at 740.522.8311.

STAY SAFE.
